Object of Obsession: Cora pendant shade

Heal’s have always been at the forefront of making the latest design trends accessible to many; their homeware and furniture collections the perfect mix of high-end and luxury high street.

Their fabulous new Cora pendant light is the ultimate nod to the industrial trend that has taken centre-stage for a long time now.

This year’s Salone Del Mobile in Milan always reveals what we’ll be seeing in the design world for the next few years – the fair featured plenty of industrial-style design that shows there is no sign of this look fading anytime soon.

But while concrete has been the material du jour for giving interiors that luxe industrial look, S/S17 sees a refresh on the textural combinations across our décor and furniture.

The Cora pendant shade blends gleaming, perforated copper with smooth smoked glass, creating interesting contrasts of warm and cool; rough and smooth.

Here are my top tips for styling this beautiful pendant in your home:

Keep the rest of the colours in your scheme neutral or coordinating to the hues in the pendant.

The shape, size and detail of this piece make it a striking focal point that will be lost with the addition of lots of distracting colour.

Here, I’ve teamed it with soft ivory chenille, light and dark grey fabrics and charcoal bevelled glass – all matching tonally to the pendant, yet providing beautiful contrast through texture.

Mount the light against a soft grey feature wall that will both draw the eye in and keep the look understated.

Pair with a mix of soft, muted greens – green and grey are a sophisticated combination that we will be seeing plenty more of this season.

Luxe velvet or lightweight linen are both fabrics that contrast well with the hard surfaces of the pendant.

Take either the warmth of the copper or the cool of the grey and work these tones into the rest of your décor.

Here, I’ve styled the light with a warm grey travertine tile and pale hues of on-trend pink to keep the look soft:

I hope you found these tips inspiring – what do you think of the light and how would you incorporate it into your interiors?
